Sydney is definitely well known for the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House which does bring attract many tourists to the city (I am a sucker for city views so I find myself here often). I know sometimes being in the midst of the rush of others getting a great close up shot of the bridge or the Opera House can be quite frustrating. I do enjoy going to places where you can still get fantastic shots of the Harbour although you are not in the rush of others, I have scooped up a collection of places I have been to where I find you can relax with beautiful Harbour views.
This is actually located right near Taronga Zoo, I would suggest if you are heading out to the zoo to spend an afternoon watching the sunset set behind the city down at Bradley’s Head, as it is a quiet location where not many people are found. I love this area as it has a nice grass patch where you can sit on a picnic blanket and watch the sunset whilst admiring the beautiful Harbour. The only down fall is there is not much parking so always make sure you either catch public transport (ferry) or even get there a little earlier before sunset.
Blues Point Reserve
This one is actually located a lot closer to the bridge although it faces the opposite way to Bradley’s Head. Here there is also a large grass area which is popular to sit on and relax, there is a better option for parking here, although some kind of other transport could be an option (Taxi, Uber) as it is quite local to the CBD. Here you can get perfect views of the bridge, Opera House and the city skyline. It is actually located across from Luna Park, in which could be an option for a day trip to visit the theme park and head the Blues Point to relax in the afternoon.
Mrs. Macquarie’s Point
Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair is actually located in Sydney Botanical Gardens which would be a must do when visiting Sydney. The ‘chair’ is located at a sharp point of the gardens, where you are able to also find an incredible view of Sydney Harbour and shoot some breathtaking shots. In this area you are also able to find grass open areas where you can relax once again and bring a group of friends or family to spend the day.
For those who don’t know this is actually a freshly built area of the city, which was built next to the beautiful Darling Harbour (known for restaurants and bars), located in Barangaroo is a beautiful reserve right on the water where you can see the harbour perfectly and take some great shots. Whilst also being closely located to Darling Harbour, you are able to have breakfast, lunch or dinner and even a night out at the bars.
Although Luna Park can be quite busy at times because it is Sydney’s main theme park, here I find I get some incredible shots and if you are staying in the city you are located not far from Luna Park. I would HIGHLY recommend to also visit Luna Park once the sun sets and hop on the Ferris Wheel as you are able to get a great photo of the city once it is all lit up from the lights and even the Harbour Bridge also.
