Ways to reset your mind & body

It’s extremely important to give yourself a break..

This topic has come to mind as I’ve been thinking non-stop about how crazy lives are these days. It is not only with your career, hobbies, children and other requirements, but the ‘everything else’. By this I mean, your mind and the every thought running through your head. In the society these days it’s always seen important to be extremely busy with your life, meet ‘societies’ ridiculous trends, when you just need to stop for a minute, an hour or a day and just reset.

Without allowing yourself to reset, relax or start over, you are going to end up pushing yourself too far and you would really rather avoid that because shit gets cray (trust me on this one). If I can say anything it would be to just do this quite often, just give yourself some time and be calm. In saying all of this, do not think that if you are not feeling content with your life all the time, there is nothing wrong with that at all, just take step by step in feeling better.

As I am an enormous believer in taking care of yourself, I wanted to put together a few ideas which you are able to follow when you feel the need to reset from everything (I don’t mean starting a new life, just relax and renew yourself). You will end up feeling extremely positive, revitalized and yourself again. Let’s feel better!

 1. Have a break from your phone / social media

Of course if your career / work is revolved around social media and your phone, I don’t mean cutting it off completely. Simply just spend time away from it, if you do not need to be on it. If you are bored, do something else (ideas below). Avoid using it, and you will notice the difference. Tip: try not to use your phone once your hop into bed, (set your alarm before, check the time before and send any messages before) as this helps your mind slow and wind down properly.

 2. Read a book, more often

There is nothing I love more to do than to read a book and forget about my outside world by imagining the world inside the book. You are able to replace using your phone by reading a book, this not only helps your mind relax but also improves your mental stimulation, you are basically improving yourself. If you do not have time, use the time in bed winding down to read a chapter or two each night.

 3. Spend a little more time outdoors

I find that I spend most of my time indoors because I am always writing, reading and blogging. In saying that, the moment I step outdoors and breath in some fresh air I automatically feel refreshed. I guess it always feels like a pure sense of relief, as you just relax. If you are doing something like me for example writing, reading or blogging (or something portable) I would suggest taking it outside, visiting a park and just take in the fresh air and get some sun. Spending time in the sun is extremely beneficial for your Vitamin D levels (two benefits in one).

 4. My favourite M word, MEDITATE (the best way to reset)

I’ve been so excited to list this, I may actually write a post on this itself. Whether you are driving to work, at work, going to bed, at your children’s sports, in the bath, on an airplane just try it! Meditation is my absolute fave way to reset, it cannot express how amazing I feel about it. If you have never meditated, there are many apps you can phone applications you can start off with, just check the app store. I still enjoy meditating and listening to someone talking, so I use an app also.

 5. Attempt to eat a little healthier than you may be

It can be extremely hard changing your diet and what you eat can be extremely difficult, as it is something I really struggle with especially because it is the one thing I am super lazy with. When I have made changes to my diet it has improved my health, along with making me feel great. I do not mean going on some ridiculous strict diet, because some people cannot just do that (me hehe) just try a few things at a time. For example – add more vegetables and fruit into your diet, if you lack iron (or are feeling exhausted and weak all the time) try eating more foods with iron such as red meat, chicken, beans and seafood.

 6. Write down your stresses > rip out the page > throw it out

Some may think this is stupid, some may not. THIS WORKS FOR ME, and has worked for many others I’ve told. When you find that your mind is over cluttered, you are becoming more stressed or anxious each day, literally do what I say (NOW), I kid. No, but seriously buy a journal (a cheap notepad is good enough) and every day, week or month (or just when you are feeling overdone) sit down for an hour and just reflect. It is important to really figure out what you are stressed about and list them all down, however many there may be. Rip the page/s out of that book and scrunched them up, throw them out! Now, take a deep breath and know that you have thrown those worries away. (Let me know if any of you try this, I’d love to know).

 7. Tell yourself this more often, ‘I am okay’

I know me telling you to talk to yourself may sound ridiculous, although when you think of it you talk to yourself through your mind 24/7. Sometimes it is important to remind yourself that although life is crazy right now, that you are actually okay and you are here on this earth. Just remind yourself sometimes, of your being. Over time this takes a positive toll, as your mind begins to calm itself and you begin to stress less.

8. Get outta town – literally

Take yourself away from your everyday life and just relax. I know holidays can be expensive but if you are in the right financial state, go for it (fly far away from where you are). Of course some cannot afford to do so (once again me, hehe). If you can just go away for a weekend, visit a new place in your hometown or even go on a drive for the day. Every so often it is important to physically remove yourself from your everyday life and let yourself feel renewed by visiting somewhere new, feeling the air of a new place and just seeing what else is out there.

I would really suggest implementing some of these resetting your mind and body strategies into your life. I know some may not suit you, but others it may. Never say no to an opportunity of change without giving it a go, you never know what the outcome may be.

I hope some of these help your mind and body just relax every now and then. I would love to hear some feedback on whether these tips have helped. Good luck lovelies, and enjoy feeling content with yourself.

Love,

Marijanna

I think that break from social media helps a lot! It’s funny how time-consuming spending time there actually is.

I agree with numbers 1-3. I think social media sometimes put unnecessary stress and negative feelings on you so taking a break from it refreshes you. Books and the outdoors are just some of my ‘go-to’ when I need to relax and let my mind wander. Thank you for sharing!
