Pros & Cons of Blogging

It’s incredible but not always rainbows & lollipops ya know

Starting my blog / becoming a blogger has been one of the best choices I have made in my life for many reasons. I am able to write endlessly and get lost in my little world of Miss Wanderess. There are so many reasons why I believe others should start writing a blog, as there are so many different blogs out there based on several different topics. As there are many positives to being a blogger, there are also some cons. Check below for the pros & cons for being in the blogger world…

Pros of being a blogger

Let’s start with the best first, don’t we all love positivity hehe. I could list hundreds of reasons why being a blogger is incredible, but we’ll just stick to five for now!

  • You are able to do what you want

As you are the one who creates your blog, you are the one who controls it. I do not really enjoy being told what to do when I enjoy something so much. Which is why I love blogging as I can post on whatever topics I wish, I can post whenever I want and however much I want. If you plan to take it extremely serious, you can eventually run your own business by starting out from a blog & it is even more incredible owning a business on something you love.

  • It’s a dream come true, when you are passionate about your blog

When you are writing and blogging on is what you are passionate about, there is nothing better. But, if you are passionate about writing also, you have hit the jackpot! I absolutely love writing and getting lost in my posts, and what is ever better is that I love what I write about and I could write non-stop (but my eyes would be goners if I did that).

  • Seeing traffic is a great feeling of satisfaction

Some people write for their own benefit. Although, others write in hopes of their posts to be seen by the world. When you start seeing traffic on your blog it can be an incredible feeling, as all your hard work which has gone into your blog as started to pay off. Ps- there are many great ways to get traffic by sharing your posts on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and even Twitter.

  • Receiving positive feedback from your readers

Seeing traffic is incredible, but when you start receiving comments & feedback from the world and other bloggers, that’s an indescribable feeling. Not only is it fantastic to know that people out there are reading what you’ve written, but when you receive feedback that you have inspired them in some way, advice has paid off or even constructive criticism is great.

  • The community of bloggers is great to be a part of

It’s incredible being a part of the blogging community, as all bloggers (travel, lifestyle, food, parenting, fashion and many more) come together as one, which is simply incredible. What is more incredible is when you all support each other in making in through this difficult industry. I enjoy using Instagram as a source on supporting bloggers. A way I support others, is through Instagram in which I share accounts on my story daily. Also collaborate with bloggers on bringing them into my online site. I have them interviewed on their story with blogging. Never could I have seen myself communicating with others of the same interest from all over the world, but I am glad blogging has given me the opportunity to do so.

Cons of being a blogger

I do not actually believe there are any real horrible negativities to blogging. Although there are some downfalls or tough things to consider when thinking of this industry. Many people tend to think blogging is quite easy, you just write a post and publish it…. Well it does sound easy putting it that way but it is not all rainbows and lollipops. You may be thinking what could be difficult about blogging. I’ll tell ya (lol I just fell of my computer chair, idiot moment).

  • It is a big responsibility, an all hours of the day kind of thing

When you start out blogging it is all exciting and still is for me, although it can be quite tough and tiring at times. It’s 1 am right now and I am happily writing although my poor little eyes want to shut, just got to keep going! Blogging is something you are thinking about 24/7 especially if you are working towards a career in blogging, it can be tough but totally worth the satisfaction of success.

  • Starting out will be the hardest part of your journey

As with anything, starting out your journey will be tough. Although with blogging you may find it a little harder. You spend all these days and late nights writing, and photographing but seeing no traffic or success, it’s heartbreaking I know I’ve been there. Consistency is the key. There was a point where I had a break from blogging which I kind of wish I didn’t but oh well, if you keep going and pushing through it pays off. Trust me!

  • The running out of blog post ideas

This is the worst!!!!!!!!!! When you are so desperate to write and cannot wait to post your next blog but, what do I write?! We’ve all been there, and it’s painful haha. There are many go to blog post ideas which you can find on Pinterest. If you want to keep it personal within yourself, find what inspires you. I tend to go out into nature, just think about a life for a while and a few blog posts tend to come to me all at once!

  • It can be expensive

People do not necessarily think that blogging can be expensive, right? Oh, sometimes it is. I mean buying your host name and setting everything up (blog theme, plug ins) is already expensive. If you are someone who takes on Instagram or Facebook too it can be costly. Making a visit to the shopping centre, to find props for photos could potentially occur. Hosting giveaways and sending items of too people can eventually add up to being quite a lot. In the end, it is totally worth it though.

  • You’ll taking on a lot, and I mean a lot!

As said in the first point, I said it’s an all hours of the day thing which of course it is. The hard work that goes into blogging, sometimes ain’t taken into consideration. Also maintaining that Instagram account (engaging with 100s of others a day, liking 100s of other posts a day, communicating with other bloggers to build rapport daily). Another is posting in groups to share your blog posts and ensure it gets out there, commenting and communicating on other bloggers posts.. there are a bunch more which I can add. I do not want people to think blogging is scary. As much as this is juggling a lot of things at once I absolutely enjoy every single bit of it!

There you go, the pros and cons of being a blogger. The pros outweigh those cons every day! You know you love what you do, when you love the cons about your role. I can be tiring but totally fun! If you are blogger and totally get this, share some of your love! If you are someone wanting to start it out, please do not let this scare you. Allow it to be inspiration for you to have a shot at it even more!

Lots of love,

Marijanna xx

Totally takes more work then I ever thought, but it really does pay off!!

  2. May 24, 2017 / 3:27 am

Hey! Great post, I think you really nailed it. Starting a blog is far more time consuming than people realise. And there are so many elements to learn! Themes, plug-ins, hosting, image compression, new camera, blog strategy…! But ultimately yes, it is very rewarding if it is your passion.

I am so agreeing with every single point you wrote …
Specially about taking on a lot!

I can definitely agree with you on all points. I’m fairly new to blogging and I think right now my biggest obstacle is getting known. I haven’t shelled out really any money except to buy my domain name. I’m personally thinking about using a different platform but at this point just really unsure on how to just let people know I’m out there. That I have a voice.

All of this is so true! While its the best journey and such a dream come true, it definitely has it’s down sides at times!

  6. May 24, 2017 / 12:24 pm

I couldn’t agree with this more if I tried! I didn’t realize how expensive blogging was going to be, but you’re right, it’s all worth it if you’re passionate. 🙂

Really never thought of the cons. Truly said about the blog ideas.
Thanks for sharing the great article. 🙂

  8. May 24, 2017 / 3:37 pm

You totally got all points right! It is so difficult to be a blogger and when you establish yourself to keep up the pace! But at the end, your passion brings you out from feeling overwhelmed by the cons and you keep going.

  9. May 24, 2017 / 6:00 pm

I totally agree with this post. Doing a blog is very time consuming I don’t think people realise sometimes what is involved. Thank you for sharing this with is.

  10. May 24, 2017 / 6:10 pm

Yes I agree, with the pro’s and also with the cons. It’s not always easy. But last week I took a break for a week because of my health and right away I missed it. I can’t stop being a blogger, that’s for sure!

  11. May 24, 2017 / 6:34 pm

The pros of being a blogger far outweighs the cons but like you said it can quickly become an expensive endeavor and is super demanding. I forego a lot of things to be able to spend time on my blog/connect with readers. A passion of love for sure!

  12. May 24, 2017 / 10:47 pm

I love this post! So real and no sugar coated! My biggest con is definitely writer’s block from time to time.

I completely agree with this post. I love everything about it but was surprised by how time-consuming editing pictures/writing posts is, it really is a creative process.

Oh girl yes to all of this! Running out of post ideas is real!

I totally get it! Blogging is something that can be so good for you, it’s creative, it’s inspiring, you can be your own boss, you can work in pyjamas, but when you’re not full time blogger and have tons of commitments it’s hard to manage everything.

I definitely agreed 110% on this. Blogging is never an easy task. I’m still a newb when it comes to blogging and nowhere near anything worth celebrating as I’m still struggling to bring in traffic. But these issues you’ve mentioned are so true, starting out is always the most difficult part and keeping it up requires so much time and effort. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

Running out of post ideas is the worst! Loved reading this, this is so relatable haha 🙂 Blogger knows a blogger!

  18. May 25, 2017 / 4:22 am

So many people have no idea how much time, energy and effort go into blogging…and that’s whether or not it’s your main gig. I’ve been doing this for almost a decade now and I love every bit of it.

  19. May 25, 2017 / 1:10 pm

You’ve hit the mark on ALL of these! I adore blogging and working for myself, and I’ve gotten so many opportunities through my blog that I never would have dreamed of otherwise. However, it’s SO hard to balance what needs to be done on my blog with the rest of my life, and it seems as if I’m always behind in all of my blog chores!

  20. May 25, 2017 / 1:30 pm

Thanks for the detailed post of the pros and cons of blogger. I’m sure many will be inspired to blog because of you.

  21. May 26, 2017 / 3:14 am

You absolutely hit the nail on the head with all the pros and cons, I really couldn’t agree more. But I wouldn’t change a thing because I love what I do 🙂

Great post! I love blogging and I’d love to this my job. However, it isn’t as easy as people imagine. You use hours photographing, editing, writing, etc. Additionally, there is plenty of networking to do if you want to be successful. At the moment I’ve come to the point where I consider getting my blog self-hosted. That means learning a lot about new soft wares and plugins, and of course, all the backups and security will be on my shoulders. That sure will be great and offer a lot of new possibilities but still, there is always a lot to learn and improve to be successful in this.
